The date at which the Xperia Play phone will be released was finally announced by Sony Ericsson and it seems that it will be available starting from May 26. As for the pre-orders for the Xperia Play, these will be possible starting from May 19, one week before the official release.

At first, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be available only on Verizon, but that will eventually change. The price of the phone at Verizon will be $199.99, as long as you get it together with a new contract, for two years.

The OS on the Xperia Play will be Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the most recent Android OS available for smartphones. Even though this phone is not a dual core model, the performances offered are still decent and you should certainly take a look at it if you love playing games, since it comes with a gamepad which slides out and allows you to play PlayStation games on it. The phone will have a number of games loaded on it, including Sims 3, Madden NFL 11, Asphalt 6 and a number of other games. In time, more games will be released for it.
